Shabazz Ray was born in Harlem New York's entertainment capital to David Richardson and Barbara Ray. He moved to South Carolina with his father and mother at 2 years old. He went back and forth from the Bronx, New York to South Carolina until he was 17. This is when he came to New York for a summer vacation but had no plans of returning to South Carolina because he decided over the course of his last year in high school that he was going to become a professional singer although he almost went in to the army reserve. He just wanted to have a career instead sitting around and doing what he saw most of the people around him doing. He wanted more he wanted to be somebody a super star.Once he settled in New York with his aunt he got a job as a sales person at a department store. While working at the department store he met a fellow musician that by chance also went to the same school he went to his sophomore year of high school in the Bronx, New York. They formed a group called Phase II, which was produced by Grand Master Flash for a short while, but the group broke up due to creative differences.Shabazz Ray became a solo artist and was produced by TNT "Anthony Washington" this lasted for about six years. Around the third year of working with TNT Shabazz went to pick up his girlfriend from a play and the director approached him and asked him could he act. He kindly said no but I can sing and thought that would make the director uninterested. The director said sing something for me so he did then the director said read the script he did then the director said when could you come for rehearsal to make a long story short Shabazz Ray ended up doing the play and after that he did another musical when a lady from that play referred him when the lead got sick. This play did a small tour through out New York & Boston. Shabazz Ray did his first acting at age13 in a school play and wrote his first song at age 14. After several years of working with producer "TNT" he moved out of town with his family and this forced Shabazz Ray to take things into his own hands no longer would he ever depend on a producer or studio to get his music done. He used money he made on films and a small loan and purchased his own recording equipment and taught himself to use it and produced his own songs from that point on. This gave birth to his album "Shabazztv.com The Introduction". Shabazz Ray plays keyboard by ear. What ever he hears in his head he can reproduce. In the midst of things Ray got the acting bug. He started doing any acting gig he could get of course while working a 9 to 5 and still pursuing his music. In 1999 he resigned from his job at the bank to pursue acting full time. That same year he started doing stand in work for Samuel L. Jackson on the production of the film "Shaft". He stood in on several movies for Samuel L. Jackson until 2006. He also booked several parts in films during that time. Shabazz has been in the films "Zoolander", "Changing Lanes" "Keeping The Faith" "Bad Company" and as of this bio "The Trouble With Cali" a Paul Sorvino film and "Order of Redemption" which stars Tom Berenger, Busta Rhymes, Armand Assante, Sticky Fingaz and Frankie Faison from HBO's "The Wire" and as of this bio he's working on "My Father's Will" Directed by Fred Manocherian.
