Rick Avery has been a stuntman, stunt coordinator, actor,and director for over 30 years. He has worked with, stunt coordinated, or doubled such stars as John Travolta, Brad Pitt, Richard Gere, Al Pacino, Robin Williams, Robert De Niro, Eddie Murphy, Dustin Hoffman, Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Michelle Pfeiffer, Cameron Diaz, Steve Carell, and Will Ferrell to name only a few. He has worked on nearly 500 feature films and television shows, music videos, and commercials, to include; The Dark Knight (2008), Batman Begins (2005), Eagle Eye (2008), Get Smart (2008), Poseidon (2006), Titanic (1997), Heat (1995), Air Force One (1997), Star Trek: Insurrection (1998), The Abyss (1989), The Crow (1994), Rush Hour (1998), Hook (1991), and Casino (1995).He is a College Graduate, Commercial multi-engine airplane pilot, Commercial Helicopter pilot and instructor, 5th degree black belt U.S. Nationals champion, operating a successful Karate school for 12 years. Certified scuba diver, U.S. Army veteran, rank of Sergeant, and former Santa Barbara metro police officer. He is married and has three children. The whole family works as stunt men and women, stunt coordinators in the business; with the exception of his daughter who is a retired Deputy Sheriff. Over the past 12 years, he has initiated a directing career, putting his 30 years of performing experience in front of the camera to good use behind the camera. His second unit director credits include Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny (2006), Scream 3 (2000), Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004), Identity (2003), and The Sweetest Thing (2002). Because of this success he was given the nod to direct two feature films: The Expert (1995) and Deadly Outbreak (1996). Both of these movies sold successfully as feature films internationally, and were HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax Premiers. Because of his passion for flying, Rick directed the Documentary Raiders Remembered. Praised by the Doolittle Raiders themselves as the best Documentary done on the group. He flies full time when not working on movies for National Helicopters, piloting the Lexus Jet Ranger for KFWB new 980, and instructs helicopter flying at Group 3 Aviation at Van Nuys Airport. Rick has recently been flying helicopters for "The Closer" (2005), Blood Shot (2010), and airplanes for "24" (2001) and Hyundai.
